Shoes To Families In Honduras

Climate change has increased the amount of hurricane activity in the world. In Honduras, over 150,000 people lost their homes due to two catastrophic hurricanes in late 2020 and are in need of basic supplies including shoes. Gently used pairs of shoes were being collected by Ridge High School Key Club and the Student Ministry at Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church. Like in the past a flyer educated us of this, and the shoes were to be left in front of Ridge High School by January 31. We messaged a ten family friends to see if they had any to donate and to leave pairs outside the door, so we could pick them up. This time, I realized that even if people saw something about a giving opportunity, it might not draw their attention. However, it changes when a friend reaches out with a call for action. In this case, they had to clean out the shoe rack and leave them in a bag in front of the door. We offered to collect and deliver, which eliminated the drop off step for them. It was nearly effortless for all of us! Ten families donated including ours, and we dropped off 55 pairs of kicks, Ooh la la! Some early spring cleaning!! Thank you friends, we contributed 5.5% towards their goal. So keep looking for opportunities, reach out and it's fairly easy after that. Our contact Ms. Kelly sent a nice note to us “THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! What an amazing effort she put into collecting shoes for people who really need it!! We are very touched by her efforts and truly appreciate her help.” And I am thankful for the kind words!
