Cards for Veterans

Jan 2021, Covid 19 still in full swing, lives confined to homes 24/7, little to none social interactions, virtual schooling and amidst all that community service locally and nationally was full on. Just like Shoes for Honduras, this was an opportunity to boost an ongoing effort by two high school Juniors, who created a website to encourage people to give back. Their idea was to make birthday cards and gift bags to put a smile on the veterans faces, since during the pandemic they couldn’t celebrate birthdays with family and friends. It was a compelling cause, doing something nice for the Veterans, who have kept us safe and gave so much to the country. Making cards seemed like a fun idea, and a friend of ours makes beautiful cards and she offered her time and creativity for the effort. Over the course of 2 hours, we made 10 cards, and with family I made 5 more later.

In the earlier days of this epidemic, we gathered up a few canvas boards that I'd painted on to give to an elderly nursing home. I wrote kind messages on the back for them, however, by then the nursing home wasn't accepting them. We recognized that these paintings could be a great addition to the gift bags, so we donated them along with the birthday cards making our donation count a whopping 27 cards/ canvas art. We had an amazing time making all these gifts and I hope to do it again sometime soon! Here is a link to the website from back in 2020: https://sites.google.com/view/hope-for-our-heroes

And thank you so much Ishita Goel for helping us with the cards!
